With drones growing popular in the U.S, Farmers have took action to gain access to drones to use it for agricultural purposes on their farmland. Farmers should be able to use specialized drones for their land under guidelines that have been created.
A excerpt from an article titled “Farmers Drone” says, ” There are economic advantages for farmers who use drones. Flying over fields is faster than driving through them. Using the remotely controlled drones is cheaper than hiring a plane. The drones can also apply fertilizers and pesticides more accurately. This allows for more precision in agriculture. They fly closer to the ground, and their backwash enables the spray to reach the underside of leaves. This means farmers can use fewer chemicals. This results in lower costs for consumers and less of an impact on the environment.” This explains that drones are cheaper, more efficient, and less impact on the environment.
Also these drones can monitor the crops and check on the overall health of each crop and will make it easier to identify problems within each crop. Drones would provide a better visual and could save time for the farmers. From the same article it explains this saying, “Drones can fly above massive fields of crops to scout out where crops are too wet, too dry, too diseased, or too infested with pests. Drones also help farmers count plants or measure their height.”Following this, the drones can provide the farmer with data so that he/she knows where the weal, damaged, or stressed crop spots are specifically. A small excerpt from the article says, ” Once the land is surveyed, U.S. farmers can use the data to narrow the area that needs treatment. For example, say a plot of farmland is infested with weeds. A farmer can use drones to find that area and spray a small amount of chemicals to kill the weeds in just that spot, instead of an entire field.”
Although there are cons to flying drones such crashing into aircraft, being mistaken as a spy drone, and causing damage to properties, the FAA adjusting the rules and regulations for drone permits for the Farmers of the U.S.
